Applications for the academic year usually open once a year — see the “Expected Opening” section below for future dates.

NSFAS 2026 Funding Update

Applications for the 2026 academic year are now closed. Funding decisions and eligibility results began being released from 15 December 2025. Students should check their status using the myNSFAS portal and upload any requested documents promptly.

Applicants typically have a set period (about 30 days) to upload supporting documents to avoid incomplete status.

How to Check Your NSFAS Status

This portal is the official way to track NSFAS funding decisions — results are not sent by SMS or WhatsApp.

Helpful Tips for NSFAS Applicants
Expected NSFAS 2027 Opening Period

NSFAS typically opens applications each year in the last quarter of the preceding year and closes early the following year. For example, the 2026 application period ran roughly from 1 September 2025 to 31 January 2026.

Based on this pattern, students aiming for NSFAS 2027 funding should prepare their documents (ID, proof of income, admission letters) and monitor the official portal starting late September 2026. Official dates are announced on www.nsfas.org.za when the portal opens.
